The start of a New Year signals a time for change, resolutions and a sense of ‘starting afresh’. With this comes pressure from media, society and others to embark on a healthier lifestyle. Often the messaging is directed towards changing your diet or fitness routine, but similar pressures can also be put on our career, social life and more. 10 ways to take part in World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day is here, and with it, an opportunity to raise the profile of mental health care around the world.
Happening on 10th October each year, the day encourages all of us to take a moment to check in with our own mental health, and the ways we can support the mental health of the people around us too. This year, the theme has been set by The World Federation For Mental Health as “It is time to prioritize mental health in the workplace.”
We are excited to contribute to raising awareness of this theme. As an organisation working hard to support the mental health of professionals and business teams to prioritise mental wellness and prevent burnout, our aim is to embed positive mental health practices in a way that’s practical and beneficial for all. Tania Diggory, Founder & Director of Calmer, believes “your mind is your business’ greatest asset”. It’s time for us to celebrate this' years’ World Mental Health Day, and this article provides you with a list of ways you can get involved too.

Mind over burnout: Transforming mindset for lasting wellbeing
Have you ever felt so exhausted by work that you couldn't keep going? If so, you're not alone. A 2023 report from Simply Business revealed that 56% of small business owners in the UK have experienced poor mental health over the past twelve months. In addition, The Hustle's survey of more than 300 entrepreneurs found that a staggering 63% of them reported experiencing burnout. With these kinds of stats, it's easy to see that modern life significantly contributes to increased stress and burnout among working adults, which affects productivity and wellbeing.
But what if we could transform our mindset to prevent job burnout before it happens? By changing our perspective, we can manage overwhelming stress and prevent burnout from developing all together. Adopting a proactive approach to mental health is the key to maintaining positive wellbeing.
This week, guest writer Angela Rose explores distinct mindsets and their influence on stress management. Here, she examines the benefits of maintaining a positive frame of mind and provide helpful tips on shifting away from negative thoughts to enhance wellbeing and reduce the risk of burnout.
Rethinking pleasure may be the key to lasting motivation

This contrast — rooted in the science of motivation — sheds light on the fundamental choices employees make in their quest for fulfilment. Delving into the complexities of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators uncovers that pleasure is a primary element in pursuing a long-term commitment to one’s aspirations.
Employees often set their sights on accomplishments, deadlines and goals, fueled by the desire to achieve and succeed. However, amid their goal-oriented lives, they often overlook a crucial element — pleasure. When rethinking pleasure as the key to lasting motivation, understanding the balance between instant and delayed gratification is essential to unlocking the true potential of the human drive.
This week, guest writer Beth Rush writes her second piece for Calmer, exploring the science of motivation and tips to encourage intrinsic motivation in the workplace.
